The Manufacturing Leader Award

We’re searching for the manufacturing leader who is a figurehead for improvement on site and inspires the people around him or her. This category is by nomination only: factory colleagues are invited to make the case for an awe inspiring team leader or ambitious operations manager who has a talent for lifting the performance of the people around them. The emphasis is on a team player with the ability to motivate employees of all grades to walk through walls to deliver success. Your nominate individual will be a line manager who has made real and valuable changes and seized extra responsibility. Initial nominations can be made in confidence. Manufacturing Team Award

From kaizen groups to shopfloor manufacturing cells, the site team that's pulled together to produce the most impressive performance gains over the past year. Entries can include teams that have focused on an internal process or product improvement, or worked alongside customers or supply chain partners to boost factory performance. What matters is the ability of that team to work collaboratively to deliver success. The winners will embody esprit de corps and prove the adage that a team is worth more than the sum of its parts. Shift teams, kaizen project groups or other worthy factory departments are all eligible as long as you can demonstrate how each triumphed in a given task.

Rising Star: Manager/Technician

Celebrating the manager, engineer or technician under the age of 25 who has made the most impressive start to his or her formative manufacturing career. Judges will look for a go-getter with an uncanny knack for delivering project success. Our winner could have delivered an innovative new factory floor process or have a track record in smashing KPIs and exceeding management expectations. Raw talent and the determination to deliver tangible results are the order of the day in this category.

Rising Star: Apprentice

Celebrating the apprentice star who has caught the eye with their passion for manufacturing/engineering excellence. Judges will look for evidence of a proven high performer with the hunger to seize extra responsibility. Our winner could have delivered an innovative new factory floor process or have a track record in smashing KPIs and exceeding management expectations. Evidence of exceeding expectations, a ‘can do’ attitude and delivering tangible results are the order of the day in this category.

Unsung Hero Award

Rewarding the employee who goes above and beyond expectations to support site success. From coming in on a weekend to help out during a production peak to spearheading suggestions scheme ideas to improve their area, we want to celebrate those individuals with a 'can do' attitude. Safe Workplace Champion Award

This award celebrates the site employee who embodies the ‘safety above all else’ ethic that’s a cornerstone of world-class manufacturing standards. From proactively risk-assessing and counteracting potential shopfloor hazards from slips, trips, falls or working at height to leading the cultural buy in essential to getting everybody to wear the correct PPE- the judges will be looking for an individual passionate about ensuring colleagues go home safe at the end of the shift. Judges will also want to see tangible evidence of the entrant’s impact on reducing injuries and lost-time incidents as well as clear commitment to taking safety from a compliance based activity to a core factory value.

Employee-led Innovation Award

The Employee-led Innovation Award celebrates the employee or team whose bright idea has led to the most impressive performance gain for his or her site. The flash of inspiration could have been the simple change to line design that has boosted output or an adjustment to packaging that cut landfill bill. From 5S to Six Sigma and poka-yoke - we want to hear about kaizen activity that has boosted performance, enhanced quality or added value to customers.

Community Champion Award

The trail-blazing employee or site team that has gone on the front foot to promote manufacturing with local schools, colleges, universities or parents. Judges want to see how those with a passion for production are challenging public misconceptions over the career opportunities in manufacturing. Your entry could have been an education initiative with local schools or, equally, you might have helped out with a local sports club, community centre or environmental project. We want to hear about anything that has improved the image of UK manufacturing.

Skills Champion Award

Recognising the most impressive site training and development initiative and the factory employees it has enabled to flourish. This new award is all about shining a light on employer-led up-skilling that has unleashed the true potential of everyday employees.

Maintenance Team Award

We’re searching for the maintenance team who are on a mission to make downtime a distant memory at their site. The judges want to see evidence of a pro-active asset care philosophy that’s delivered a tangible reduction in breakdown rates and powered up plant performance. Alongside textbook TPM, RCM or root cause analysis – the winner will also have to show how they’ve embedded asset care as everybody’s business rather than just a job for the engineering department. Submissions should highlight examples of partnership between maintenance and production departments that have delivered added value for their business.

SME Innovators Award

This award celebrates the SME team who show that size is no barrier to delivering innovation, value add and excellence within UK manufacturing. Boosting the number of quality SMEs in UK supply chains could create a £30 billion boost to our economy, according to industry figures and recent history has seen many major OEMs rolling out plans to bring business back to home-grown suppliers. This award shines a light on the men and women who are leading the renaissance. Our judges want to hear about the strategy, teamwork and focus on improvement that has helped you win new business. Your entry could describe a CI project that freed up volume or created the KPI gains to entice an OEM customer or a successful strategic bid to open up a new export market. What’s crucial is the people-led excellence that made it possible.
